Overcoming Fear

 


FEAR

Fear is often referred to as False Experience Appearing Real – which means we misuse our faculty of imagination to ‘imagine’ some future loss and then give it the status of present reality. 

It may be loss of an object, loss of health, loss of a comfort zone, loss of anything.  It’s simply worry.  So instead of creating images of the worst possible outcome (loss) we can turn our thinking, our ‘imaging’ around, and visualise the best, the positive, the anastrophe and not the catastrophe.  But don’t make it a desire, don’t get attached to your vision.  Just create it, let it go, and return to live in the present moment.

QUICK DECISION-MAKING POWER


Quick and right decisions can be taken by a silent mind. A silent mind is one which is positive. Negative thoughts are too many in number and therefore create a confusion, and then even if the solution is clearly in front of you, you will not be able to see it. When we develop the habit of creating positive thoughts, then only the right kind of thoughts emerge and taking decisions is very easy. When the mind is silent, we do not have to think very logically, the right solution emerges from the intution and it is a solution which we would have never thought of logically.

POSITIVE THINKING 

Positive thinking is developed with constant attention and practice. Through out the day, stop in between for a minute and watch what is going on in your mind, if it is not the right kind of thought- stop and change it. Start talking to your mind gently, guide it and it will listen to you. Whenever any unnecessary or waste thought comes - tell your mind this is not useful for you or for your relationships and change it. Try and look at your mind for at least 1 minute in every hour. In the morning when u begin the day sit in silence for 5 minutes and programme your mind with positive thoughts. for eg: 

1. I will remain peaceful today irrespective of whatever happens today. Anger will not come to me.


2. Who ever I meet I will only look at their qualities, not weaknesses. I will not criticise anyone.

 

3. I am powerful, I can do what ever I decide to do.....


When your thoughts are positive concentration is higher, and hence your memory will improve.

 

Meditation helps greatly in developing this practice of positive thinking.

Ethics

 


ETHICS


Whether it is about telling lies, or about agreeing to your boss. This is a question of your values, principles and power to live by your ethics, and your priorities in life. We cannot say anything regarding this - you will have to make a choice. The more you live by your values, the more powerful and peaceful you will be.

We do not need to be disturbed about others not living by values, we need to live by them।

Failure in EXAMINATIONS

 


FAILURE IN EXAMINATIONS


Any failure that we encounter simply means that we did not get the expected result. When we fail in any domain of our life, it only means that “we have failed”, it does not mean that “we are a failure”. It just means that our action was not right for us, it does not mean we are not right, or we are no good. Let us separate ourselves from the action.


It is something that has happened and cannot be undone, it is the past. Past is Passed.

We now have to focus on the present and the future.


We have two options –


1. Feel guilty about the failure, create pain. This will reduce our inner power and our self confidence. We need both of these to perform well now. So even a single day of pain and guilt is only going to reduce that power which we need the most now. 


2. Accept we have not achieved what we expected; now we will do it again. No thoughts of WHY, HOW, WHAT will people say… etc. It is over, now our focus should be – NOW WHAT DO WE HAVE TO DO. Bring our mind only to putting effort now, forget the past as if it never was.

It might come to mind again, but gently change your thought – my attention is only going to be on what I have to do now.

By doing this we will conserve energy and use it to perform well this time.

Inferiority complex

 




-INFERIORITY COMPLEX


It is nice to know that you are benefitting from the programme. When we have low self confidence or low self-esteem we feel inferior and are not comfortable with other people. 

 

We compare ourselves with others based on our outer personalities, and each one of us is different there. We look different, we speak different, we behave differently. Sometimes we like other personalities more than what is ours and we want to become like them. 

Many of us forget one of the most important human characteristics – we are each unique human beings, with unique histories, patterns of thinking and personalities. There is no duplication in humanity. One of the deepest habits that we learn is to compare ourselves with others. We forget that we cannot be like, look like, act like any other person. Imitation always ends in failure, especially if we are dependent on being like someone else for how we feel about ourselves. We buy into the belief that if we can successfully imitate others, everything in our life will be OK, and we will at last be happy and successful. 

This habit of comparison and imitation is one of the greatest killers of self esteem. It stops us from ever beginning to know ourselves. It keeps us stuck in the world of surfaces as we compare faces, figures and fitness. We don't even realise the beauty we seek is not to be seen with the naked eye but the inner eye. And so the first and most important step in building our self esteem is to break the habit of comparison, and to stop unconsciously trying to be like someone else. 


You need to know your true self and also realise your own qualities and strengths. Try and go to the centre and learn Rajyoga Meditation and experience yourself as that pure conscient energy the soul, which is beautiful, powerful and confident. You recognise God and develop a very personal relationship with him. When you start experiencing God as your father, as your best friend - you will have nothing to fear. Your self confidence will rise sharply. You will experience God's company and support at every step. How can God's child feel inferior?? It is because we have forgotten who we are that we feel inferior to others.

Concentration

 



-CONCENTRATION


Concentration and focus helps us to achieve much more than what we feel we can.  Concentration is basically having the mind and the intellect on the same object. 

 

Mind is our thinking faculty and intellect is the faculty which visualises. For eg. You create a thought - My house (this is the mind) and immediately you will be able to see how your house looks (this is the intellect). What we see then gets imprinted inside. If instead of the house the picture that comes to you is of your college, then the mind starts thinking about the college and we say our concentration has broken. So the mind and intellect should work together. So when you are studying, what ever you are reading try and also visualise it. If the intellect is not busy in visualising what you are reading then the intellect will start seeing other pictures (for eg. friends, movies etc..) and then the mind will also go there and concentration is broken. 

 

Also practicing silence will help greatly. When you sit to study, sit for 5 minutes in silence, and observe your mind. Slowly talk to the mind and ask all the unnecessary thoughts to go away. Give instructions to your mind - you are going to study for how much time, what are you going to study and how much do you want to achieve - tell your mind all this. In between after every hour, stop and be in silence for one minute and again focus your mind. You can do this during the day also.


During the entire day, try and keep your mind light, i.e. not thinking too much, and thinking only the right quality of thoughts. Be aware that the mind is not thinking that which is of no use. Too much thinking reduces the strength of the mind and therefore concentration power. Try and reduce your anger, irritation, worry – all these reduce your power.
